About us
AND IN THE BEGINNING
Wanabiwood is a major importer and distributor of flooring products into South Africa and the Sub-Saharan Region. Founded by Renalde Pretorius in 2009, we have grown over the years into one of the larger and most respected flooring importers in the Country.
It all really started in 2010 after a year of research with factories and consumers, Renalde, armed with her new product attended Decorex Jhb with a hunch that LVT flooring was going to be the new buzz word in flooring solutions, her hunch paid off and after a successful first show, the initial order was doubled, and Wanabiwood Flooring started to enter the market. As the demand increased so did the need to expand the footprint beyond Gauteng, we now have warehouses and representation in Johannesburg, Durban, East London and Cape Town giving Wanabiwood a national footprint. In addition to the local South African market, we are represented in most of
the Sub-Saharan Regions making us able to supply anywhere on the African Continent.
FOCUSED FLOORING
For many years Wanabiwoods focus was on Vinyl flooring, this ethos of focusing on one type of product means that the company became experts in this field and despite the temptation to expand the product base, the time was never right, and to find the correct products would prove to be tricky in a flooded market. We dabbled in decking and laminate flooring, but the time was not right for these products. Wanabiwood for many years has been considered to be a leader and specialist in LVT and SPC flooring products, we still are very much focused on vinyl, but as the story of growth continues, the portfolio has now expanded.
EXPANSION
Covid was a huge setback for the world but Wanabiwood came out the other side and we think that we became a stronger company for it despite the obvious hardships that covid caused. The need to grow the product offering became a priority, but it was not a simple decision. Various products were considered and with the mindset still on vinyl based products, we added a cushion vinyl to our range from one of Europe’s biggest manufacturers, this was then followed by a non-directional vinyl sheeting product Exceed 200 and more recently the Directional Wanaflex this was prompted by the ever growing healthcare and educational demand for sheeting products.
In 2022 we added Forbo Flooring products to our range, this opened our portfolio up to Flotex carpeting, Linoleum and a host of other innovative products from one of the largest manufacturers in Europe, then towards the end of 2023 we were offered Heterogeneous sheeting from another giant, IVC, their brands include Mohawk and Unilin, two massive worldwide brands, their sheeting products open another avenue for the Wanabiwood brand with offering now on acoustic and anti slip flooring.
Wanabiwood will continue to explore openings in the market and will endeavour to source quality affordable products to fill these gaps in the market, soon to be launched is our Turboloc XL interlocking PVC tiles for the commercial market and our Excell wall protection system to include bumper rails and wall cladding.
